Volunteer

Drop-In Volunteers are always welcome during Open Shop hours - no sign up required!

If you are interested to schedule a volunteer session, or have questions about volunteering, please Message Us on Facebook (first choice), or email us (as a last resort).

Volunteers do not need bicycle mechanic experience to participate – all skill levels are welcome and encouraged to help.

Non-bike-related skills are also VERY useful – if you can help us organize, clean, label, brainstorm, pick a music playlist, build a shelf, demolish a wall, or diagnose why our printer isn’t connected, we are interested in your help!

All volunteers must be over the age of 18 or accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Volunteers must complete our standard Liability Waiver (just one time – the waiver lasts indefinitely) before participating in shop activities.

Volunteer Profiles

Mechanics help visitors and members achieve their bike maintenance goals. Mechanics should have some bike repair experience and should expect to get dirty! Novice mechanics or those wanting to learn more complex skills can still volunteer and and assist an experienced mechanic.

Greeters assist newcomers by describing the FCCB mission, signing-in members, giving shop tours, and helping assess bike repair issues. Greeters can also help with basic maintenance tasks like pumping tires, changing a saddle, or adding a light, lock, or water bottle cage.  You don’t need any special bike skills to be a Greeter, you just need a smile and a willingness to get involved.  Contact FCCB for more information on becoming a Shop Greeter.

General Volunteers help with shop organization, donor bike teardowns, parts sorting, bike cleaning, and general cleanup activities.  Lots of general volunteers are working toward a Sweat Equity Membership while learning bike skills and helping FCCB put bikes back on the road.
